clarinets, contra-bassoon, 2 timpani
Important facts:
1)  All excerpts and requirements for the 2007 All-State auditions are presently on-line.
2)   String (including harp) excerpts can be obtained through the All-State website or by visiting the Western
States Honor Orchestra website at http://usonia.unco.edu/music/strings/weekendforstrings/default.html
3)   All-State Orchestra audition CD's and tapes must be postmarked by October 13, 2006.  CD's and tapes may
be hand delivered by the end of school on Monday, October 16, 2006.  All CD's and tapes must be delivered to
Peter Toews, ASO Chair-Elect.  (address and contact information is online)
4)   Remember - only one student audition per tape or CD - do not send multiple students on a CD or tape
5)   CD's and tapes will be returned to you at the All-State Orchestra weekend only if you contact Peter Toews by
January 8, 2007.  Otherwise, all recordings will be destroyed.  All judge comment cards will be returned to
directors at the ASO weekend.
6)  Please encourage your woodwind, brass and percussion students to audition.  They will need to prepare a 2 &
1/2 min. solo of their choosing, 3 scales (online) and the required excerpt.  The percussion audition is online.
7)   Directors - please listen to the recordings you submit carefully.  Judges can only judge what they hear.  Poor
quality recordings adversely affect your student's chances of being accepted.  CD's are by far most preferred for
their quality.  Did you know that with some easily obtained software that you can record on your laptop?  Please
do not add reverb or enhance your student's recordings in any way.  Please, no verbal announcements,
accompaniment or audible metronome sounds.  There should be no stops/starts within the excerpts and/or scales.
8)   Students who are alternates will be informed as such and be given music to prepare.  As far as string
students are concerned almost all of the first and second alternates did get to participate in the 2006 ASO Festival.
Conductors for 2007:  Larry Livingston from USC (Symphony Orchestra)
