Yes, we will be having Randy Sabien for a clinic and end-of-day performance on
this!
We are looking into the possibility of
offering an additional college credit option for those interested.

Colorado IAJE Jazz Education and
Mentoring Day
Saturday, July 23rd
at Cheyenne Mountain HS, Colorado Springs
9:30 am registration table opens - cost: $10, students $5.
10 am -11:30 am Back to back clinics with Andrew Dahlke saxophone
instructor from UNC and another clinician TBA
11:30 - 12:20 Jazz educator, violinist, and author of the method
“Jazz Philharmonic”
Randy Sabien will do a hands on clinic with a
mixed group of adult and student string players. Even if you are a “band
only” teacher you don't want to miss this clinic, Randy’s ideas are
totally applicable. If you, your spouse or a student happen to be a string
player - you are welcome to join on stage for this session.
1:10 - 1:40 I will conduct an onstage mentoring demo with my
elementary jazz ensemble - Jazz Alive in ‘05 - along with special guest
mentors who have worked in my program this past year.
1:40 - 2:10 We will open the stage for any interested students (all
ages). We will do a concentrated onstage session, learn one of my pieces,
and have kids soloing and trading with the special guests!**
2:10 - 3:00 International saxophonist and jazz educator Dave Pietro
will do his clinic. This is not to be missed! Dave’s sessions are really
fantastic!
3:00 - 3:45 A “bring down the house” jazz performance with both
Randy Sabien and Dave Pietro backed up by Colorado’s top jazz rhythm
section.
**If you happen to be a band director or teacher yourself, please feel free
to bring a budding or interested student and have them bring their
instrument if they would like to sit in on the open, onstage mentoring
session at approx. 1:40 pm!

Go West (Hwy. 24) to 21st St. (a stop)
