Summer Workshops for Strings

Workshop for High School Students

from Julie Lyonn Lieberman:

Hello everyone. Even though a foot of snow covered by two inches of ice fell yesterday, spring is almost here! Please scroll down to learn about an exciting first time ever alternative styles teacher training at Duquesne this summer, a free download I've developed for string teachers, the ASTA DVD I'm working on, my new scores for Alfred, and my impending move! warmest regards, Julie

1) From July 16th, Monday, through July 20th, I will be leading an alternative string styles teacher training as a part of our third  http://pittsburghjazzandfiddle.org/  PittsburghJazz&fiddlecamp at Duquesne. Martin Norgaard will teach the jazz component, and Jan Farrar Royce will teach the fiddling component. I hope to see some of you. You can earn credit for attending.

2) If you go to  http://julielyonn.com/  and click on "downloads," you will find my Alternative Styles Teacher Training Manual that I designed to supplement the week at Duquesne. It is in pdf format.

3) This spring, I will be spending very little time on the road in order to complete a national project for American String Teachers Association funded by a grant from NAMM. It is tentatively titled "Teaching Alternative String Styles in the Classroom" and I have just finished filming 6 months of interviews/demonstrations with many of my colleagues, including Mark O'Connor, Mark Wood, John Blake, Jr., Darol Anger, and Dave Balakrishnan and Mark Summer from Turtle Island String Quartet to name six of the roughly 20+ participants.

4) I have two new scores out with Alfred Publications at [ http://alfred.com/ ]Alfred Publishing | Experience the Joy of Making Music, now totaling four: "Midnight's Celtic Run," "Folk Dance from Provence," "Lebedike Honga," (Klezmer) and "Rockin' It."

5) My offer for a property in Worthington, MA (near Northampton) has just been accepted. The house was built in 1900 and was the parsonage. There is a church across the street that I will be able to use for recordings, videos, workshops, and concerts. The location is almost equidistant from the Hartford, Albany, and Boston airports. It needs a lot of work, so we won't be moving there for about a year (or possibly more) and then I will eventually phase out of NYC and CT.
